About Us

Essence is an intimate family business, set up by a Mother and Daughter, who have a wealth of experience working with people, forging positive relationships within both the service and voluntary sectors.

With 30 years experience between us in our own fields of mentoring and befriending support, volunteer management, customer service management and family support, we can provide a first class level of support through companionship. Inspired after a short stay in hospital and meeting some interesting individuals, we recognised there was a gap for those very independent individuals who do not see regular home care services or a volunteer be-friender as an option to manage their loneliness, or support them to regain their confidence and maintain a healthy mental attitude in a way they would like to.

I have 3 lovely boys, aged between 6-14 years old who keep me on my toes and bring lots of love and laughter into my life.

I have spent 17 years in a customer facing role as Customer Service Advisor within a very busy retail environment. I completed NVQ qualifications in Customer Service and among my many duties, managed customer complaints on a daily basis, bringing these to a positive resolution. I currently work part-time for East Riding County Council at one of their busy Children Centres.

I enjoy being with Charlotte and my 3 grandsons at every opportunity. I studied as a mature student after leaving the 'banking world' and have a BA Hons Degree in Social & Cultural Studies with Business Management. I spent 4 years working with Home-Start, initially as a volunteer be-friender and then as a coordinator for the service, working with families with young children who needed some extra support during stressful times. I then went on to work for The Prince's Trust for 12 years managing up to 150 Volunteer Mentors across Yorkshire who supported young people who were trying to turn their lives round. I was also fortunate to work for two years with The Prince's Trust's Young Ambassadors.

Until recently I worked part time at a Residential Parenting Assessment Centre which offered intensive 24 hour support to families at risk of losing their babies/children. I have now left this post in order to commit my time to Essence.
