About essence.

Essence.... Support through Companionship.

We chose to call our service Essence as this word reflects both quality and life-spirit, two very important components to the philosophy of our enterprise and support and companionship is what we will provide.

Our service is dedicated to those who would like to continue with the small things they have always enjoyed, but are perhaps finding it a little more difficult to maintain on their own,  or would simply enjoy more, with the company of someone else.   Recent illness, lack of confidence, loss of a partner, age,  or simply having to let go of the car can affect our well-being and desire to seek out those small activities which enhance our lives.  We can help you maintain, find and enjoy those activities again.

Essence allows choices limited only by your own creativity and motivation.

Essence is an intimate family business, set up by a Mother and Daughter, who have a wealth of experience working with people,  forging positive relationships within both the service and voluntary sectors.  With 30 years experience between us in our own fields of mentoring and befriending support, volunteer management, customer service management and family support,  we can provide a first class level of support through companionship.

Inspired after a short stay in hospital and meeting some interesting individuals, we recognised there was a gap for those very independent individuals who do not see regular home care services or a volunteer befriender as an option to manage their loneliness or support them to maintain a healthy mental attitude, in a way they would like to.

...control over what you feel you want, rather than what the community might feel you need.

We are professional by standard and personable by nature .  We have the same mind-set and philosophy when it comes to supporting and enabling others.  We recognise that being part of and connecting with the community does not necessarily mean being part of a community group, but feeling alive and participating in something you personally enjoy, and sharing with another person,  can bring that community connection.  This might be anything from a gentle walk on the seafront embracing the views, to preparing tea with someone and sitting down to watch a favourite TV programme.
